Paris: Crepes
TOPIC: Paris, France FOCUS POINT: Crepes For my blog I will be doing a travel blog called There and Back Again. This will not be any normal travel blog however. I will be choosing cities in other countries and picking unique places, foods, restaurants, and activities to describe and talk about. Once I have chosen what I am going to write on I will then relate it back to Asheville. It will show you how you can experience something that is in another country right here in Asheville. My first city will be Paris, France.I know ever since I was little that I wanted to go to Paris because it was the city of lights and love. I don't know about you, but the way to my heart is food, so today I will tell you where you can get amazing crepes, that Paris is known for, right here in Asheville, NC. When I went to Paris in the summer of 2012, we were out adventuring one day and it was about lunch time. So we started looking for somewhere to eat. We went up this stone road on a little hill and found a very small crepery. My family and I all got crepes and went outside into the alley where they had tables set up and ate out there. I know it is not every day that you get to go to Paris and eat crepes. So, if you want to go to Paris and eat crepes but cannot go to Paris right now, you can still have crepes by just going to downtown Asheville to Haywood Street to a local creperie called the Twisted Crepe. I went there this past Saturday and had two amazing crepes that tasted just like the one that I got in Paris. Paris is a beautiful city and a great place to visit, but it was not as gorgeous as it is shown to be in the movies. The city itself is very dirty and just not as glamorous as shown on TV and movies. One day while we were in Paris we rode their subway which they call the metro. When we got off the metro at one of the stations there was a homeless man passed out with a partially full bottle of wine sitting next to him. This kind of image is not one that they usually show in the movies and on TV This just really stood out to me because Paris actually has a high homeless population, which is something many people do not know. Even though Paris is not as amazing as it looks on the screen, I would still recommend going because they have amazing art and the extraordinary Eiffel Tower which makes it worth the trip. By the way, the view you get to see off of the Eiffel Tower is magnificent. I hope you have a chance to go some day and experience the city and eat some crepes, or are they pancakes? Some information about crepes is that the word crepe in French means pancake. Crepes originated in the northwest region of Brittany, France. The very first crepes were made out of Buckwheat that was very nutritious and was gluten free. Then in the 20th century flour crepes were made. The ingredients used are flour, eggs, butter, and milk. These are the ingredients of the crepes that we now eat. We don’t usually eat them plain, we put all kinds of toppings on them like nutella and bananas, or bacon and eggs. The options are endless. Even though they originated in Brittany, France they are served all throughout France and now, all over the world.
